FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Tryouts are held in mid-September, typically the second or third Sunday/Monday of the month. Players are expected to attend both days of tryouts.
To play for an Issaquah Select Boys team:
- Player must be male.
- Player must be enrolled in either 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade or home school equivalent. 3rd graders may tryout for the 4th grade team.
- A player's permanent residence must be within the Issaquah High School boundary or player's parent or legal guardian must be employed by a school within the Issaquah High School boundary that allows that player to attend a school within the Issaquah High School boundary.
- Player must attend at least one tryout session of the posted tryout dates (no exceptions).
Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup tryouts. All players (even those who have played Issaquah Select previously) must attend at least one of the scheduled tryout dates to be eligible for team selection.
We do not allow players to play up a grade level. We believe players should excel at their own grade level. The only exception is that 3rd graders may tryout for the 4th grade team since we do not currently offer a 3rd grade team.
Tryouts are closed to viewers. Only Issaquah Select coaches, evaluators and players are allowed in the gym.
Coaches and evaluators use a variety of drills and scrimmages to test each player's fundamental skills. Fundamentals are the most important factor. Our evaluation staff and coaches want players who have the "intangibles" - desire, hustle, attentiveness, a good attitude and the ability to play as part of a team.
Each player will be given a bib number when they attend tryouts. Team assignments will be posted on our website and Facebook page by bib number.
We typically have 10-12 players per team. It is up to the coach as to how many players they would like to carry on a team.
Issaquah Select is a non-profit 501(c)3 program. Player fees are used to cover the cost of gym rental, coaching fees, training fees, tournaments, league fees and operating costs.
Fees for the 2024-2025 season will be $775 per player. This fee does not include uniform or travel costs.
All parents and players will be expected to attend our program kick-off meeting at the end of September. At this meeting, we discuss the player expectations for the season, introduce our board members, select uniform sizing and a coach meet & greet.
Practices begin mid-October and will be sporadic for the first several weeks as fall sports wind down.
As we start the new basketball season, initial practice days and times may not be consistent and may be staggered. As the season continues we will try our best to work with each team to have consistent practices on the same day and time.
Each team is scheduled for two 1-1 1/2 hour practices per week, depending upon gym availability.
Our ISB scheduler will work with each team to assign specific schools or locations for practices. Most teams will have practice at one of the Issaquah elementary or middle schools or at Issaquah High School.
We also have gym space at the Elite Sports Academy gyms in Preston or Klahanie.
All practice schedules will be updated in your Team Snap account.
You should confirm with your coach how many minutes before practices he would like the team to be there.
A list of potential tournaments will be given at the all-program meeting in September. Each team will choose 2 tournaments to participate in that are included in your fee.
There are tournaments available each weekend in November before the regular season starts. Most teams choose to play at that time. Other available tournaments are over the Christmas break, MLK weekend and President's Day weekend. It is up to the team to decide which tournaments to participate in.
Teams are allowed to play in additional tournaments. Those are agreed upon and paid for by the entire team.
ISB has no input if tournament game times or opponents change. It will be up to the coach and team parent to post your team's schedule in Team Snap for any tournaments you participate in.
Most tournament schedules are released no later than Wednesday evening of the week you will play. We recommend checking the tourney website in case of last minute changes.
The regular season begins the first weekend of December and ends the last weekend of February.
Our Gold teams will play in the Eastside Travel League with a 16-19 game schedule. Games will be on Saturday and Sunday. Double headers are possible.
Our Purple teams play in PEAK League and can play Saturdays, Sundays or both. Double headers are possible. The number of regular season games is dependent on number of teams that enter each division.
There are no regular season games over the Christmas holiday break or the first weekend of mid-winter break. All teams will play at the tail end of mid-winter break.
Each team will have both a team parent and a board representative. Along with your coach, they will handle most of the communication to your team.
All teams will have their own Team Snap account to use as their main communication tool. Player info, practices, tournaments and games can all be found within your Team Snap account.
We highly recommend that all families upload the Team Snap app on their phones to stay up-to-date on all activities for your team.
Player’s positions, starting rotations and playing time are at the discretion of the coaching staff. Playing time is determined by many factors, including overall skill level, attitude, attendance, respect for coaches and teammates, coachability, hustle and game situations.
